Our Siberians live as part of our family TexasTails is a small, home-based breeding program allowing for intimate care of each precious kitten. We are located in the West Houston-Katy area of Houston, Texas and although there is a great outdoors here; we feel it is in the best interest of our cats to keep them as indoor-only animals. This ensures their safety, reduces the possibility of fleas and protects overall health. We founded the cattery out of love for the breed and a desire to introduce the Siberian to a wider range of cat-lovers. As with most ethical catteries, TexasTails is not focused on financial profit but rather the overall advancement of the breed. Although both our Queen and Sire are considered show quality, with our own young family, it has not yet worked into our schedule to show. We chose our foundational breeders carefully following many interviews with multiple breeders and are confident that they will produce breed-standard babies. The Feline Family Members: The above pictures are of Yuri (red silver) and Isabella (bicolor). By the end of 2004 we plan to add another queen to the entourage. Yuri and Bella live in a great house with a multitude of windows for bird, butterfly, squirrel and kid watching. There is a dog, a chinchilla, and a few fish. They also enjoy a 'for cats' DVD that offers fascinating entertainment, they really do watch! There are ready hands for petting, brushing, and chin-scratching, not to mention a number of soft snuggly beds for sleeping. Our feline family members share their little kingdom with two children, mom, dad and various friends and family who visit frequently. Nutrition: We feed only premium cat food that has been chosen particularly for our animals taste preferences. It is important to transition any cat or kitten when changing feed products to avoid stomach upset. Kittens are particularly sensitive and can be prone to diaherra (and then dehydration) associated with food changes. If you choose to feed a different brand than your kitten is used to, please make the transition slowly over a period of at least one week. Dehydration is extremely dangerous in a young kitten. The Sandbox: We have tried just about every litter out there! They all have their upsides and their downsides and you will have to determine for yourself what is right for your home. We have found that The World's Greatest Cat Litter and/or the Nature's Miracle litter work the best for us. Both litters clump nicely and are flushable and have their own preferable qualities. Nature's Miracle is a favorite with the kittens...it seems to have a nice natural 'attraction', dig-feel, and has decent odor control. It does seem to track more than World's Greatest. As with changing the brand of food, changing litter should be approached with caution. Mix your new litter in with what your kitten/cat is accustomed to and gradually increase the percentage of new to old until you are fully using the new brand. Too sudden a change could make your feline buddy unhappy with his box and he will find a nice, quiet (preferably carpeted) corner of your house instead....yuck! Veterinary Care: We chose our vet very carefully. With a breed that is still largely unfamiliar to many cat people in the United States, choosing a vet who is open, willing to learn, listen and err on the side of caution is wise. Our vet also serves another feline breeder in our area and practices excellent standards in regards to breeding animals. Texas Tails kittens will have had excellent veterinary care when one arrives in your home. |
